How To Apply Your Perfume Correctly And Make It Last(Do’s And Don’ts)

Yesterday while I applied my perfume, the question of the right places to spray perfume came up, after my mum thought it weird that I sprayed perfume above my hair.

I decided to research it and found an article on Huff Post which answered all my questions and more.

When putting on perfume or cologne, some spray it into the air and walk through the “cloud”, while others   mist it on as the final step of getting dressed. But believe it or not, there is a right way to apply fragrance, especially if you want the scent to last longer than five minutes.
In a recent interview, Patti Kapla, the vice president of business development at FragranceNet.com, gave an insight on the do’s and don’ts of applying perfumes. Read below:

The best time to apply fragrance is after moisturizing.

Once you’ve bathed or showered, gently dry yourself off, lather up with lotion and then spray on your perfume of choice. Kapla believes that moisturizer provides a base for your fragrance to latch onto.
Make it even easier by pairing with matching shower gels and body lotions.

Kapla explains, “Using the shower gel, soap, shampoo, etc. of your fave fragrance will help make your fragrance last all day long! If you don’t have the matching lotions offered with your scent, try applying Vaseline or a non-scented moisturizer to your pulse points before you apply your fragrance.”

Never rub your wrists together.

This fragrance expert strongly cautions against this habit. “You ‘break up’ the top notes, which are the lightest,” she says.

For a lasting impression that won’t stink, try the hairbrush trick.

Believe it or not, hair strands are even better vessels for carrying fragrance than your skin—you’ve just got to be careful about application. Instead of misting it directly on your hair (Remember: alcohol dries it out), spritz it on your brush so that it will be dispersed more evenly and subtly.

Another intresting place  perfumes should also be sprayed is Down Your Back.

It may seem odd, but fragrance expert Chandler Burr insists it strikes the perfect balance between giving your fragrance a long shelf life and not having it be too overbearing for those around you.

“Pull the collar of your top back, and put a blast down your back between clothing and skin,” he advises. “If it’s a light fragrance, do it twice. Your natural movements through the air will diffuse the scent more subtly, it won’t be right in front of you—or people you’re with—all day so you won’t fatigue to your own perfume as fast, and it will seem more a part of you.”

Now you know the right way to spray your perfume. Do leave your comments.
