RE: NYSC ALLOWANCE SCANDAL, NYSC EX-DIRECTOR-GENERAL, BRIG. JOHNSON OLAWUMI AND AGF AHMED IDRIS FINGERED

Our attention has been drawn to an online publication alleging misappropriation of corps members’ allowances by the immediate past NYSC Director-General as well as Accountant General of the Federation.

For the avoidance of doubt, it is imperative to state that the introduction of TSA makes it absolutely impossible for anyone in the Scheme to embezzle, misappropriate or misapply corps members’ allowances as NYSC does not bank the allowances.

Pointedly, allowances of corps members are in a pool in the Central Bank of Nigeria.  Therefore, NYSC does not have direct access to the funds.  Payment of corps members’ allowances are effected directly through TSA.  For this to be done, after due verification by the State Secretariats, qualified corps members, that is, those who have been certified to have worked satisfactorily in a given month are paid.  Funds arising from any transaction that does not go through return back to the CBN.

While we assure the public of our unalloyed commitment to the Welfare of corps members, we shall continue to operate within the confines of due process and transparency.
