Despite their remarkable effort and eight gold medals at the RIO 2016 Paralympic Games in Brazil, the heroic Paralympians seem to have been relegated to the side and ignored by the Presidency weeks after their return to the country.

The athletes who performed exceedingly well at the games as a result of been ignored are now becoming restless regarding their fate following the silence from the presidency on rewarding them.

Lauritta Onye jubilates after winning gold with a new world record in the women’s shot put F40.

One of the athletes, Lauritta Onye who won a gold Medal with a world record at the Games said they have to ask questions because after redeeming the name of the country by winning 8 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals, the Federal Government has not made any pronouncement on their performance.

“We went to Rio with the determination to win and in line with our promise, we conquered and now nobody is saying anything about our performance. It is sad. We are now begging President Muhammadu Buhari to receive us and accord us the necessary recognition,” she pleaded.

Nigeria performed woefully and won just a bronze at the Olympics, yet these amazing athletes who performed remarkable well-the best outing for Nigeria at the paralympics- are beggging to be recognized and rewarded?

I really do not understand what is going on with the Presidency of this country. What really are its priorities? It’s not like any thing else is getting better, that we might perhaps say that’s why these paralympians have been forgotten.

Seriously smh.
