The battle between Omoni Oboli and Jude Idada has just begun.

Moments ago, at the venue of the premiere of her new movie Okafor’s Law, the popular filmmaker was stopped from showing the movie following a court injunction for copyright infringement/trademark violation case between her and popular writer, Jude Idada.

According to witnesses at the venue who captured the moment on camera, Oboli wept as she addressed the audience, intimating them of the development. The injunction has also stopped the distribution of the movie which slated for launch on March 31.

Here’s a clip from the botched premiere:

Recall that the drama between Oboli and Idada started last September, after the Canadian-based Nigerian writer accused the filmmaker of stealing his idea for her latest movie Okafor’s Law.

In his interview with True Nollywood Stories, Idada said he originally wrote the script for Okafor’s Law, gave it to Omoni and her husband, Nnamdi, and the duo took interest in the story. They reportedly agreed to pay him N750,000 for it, but never did. However, they went ahead to shoot the movie, and subsequently, to promote it.

Jude Idada also added that he was the brain behind Omoni’s 2014 blockbuster Being Mrs. Elliot. According to the writer, he wrote the first 50 pages and sent to the filmmaker after she asked him to write it, but she claimed to have found a better script. But Idada said he would later  watch the premiere of the movie in Paris and discover it was his story.

It was for this reason he called her out last September after learning that she had produced Okafor’s Law. Omoni Oboli never addressed the story; she went ahead with the promotion, while Idada consulted with his lawyers.

Omoni Oboli, Dioni Visions & Filmone Distribution are named the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Defendants in the case filed by Jude Idada. Omoni was forced to obey the court injunction by cancelling the premiere as she stood the risk of being charged with contempt if she had gone on with it.
