Son Of Nasarawa state governor, Tanko Al-Makura Charged With Manslaughter For Killing Student

Nasarawa state governor, Tanko Al-Makura‘s son Khaleel who was arrested after his car knocked down a student, Ovye Amos, will be arraigned for manslaughter, Police say.

Ovye, a Junior Secondary School 2 student of Government Secondary School, Lafia, was killed after Khaleel’s car knocked him down on Monday night at about 8PM.

Ovye had gone to get batteries for his flashlight when the tragic incident occurred.

According to Channels TV, Ovye’s death led to the students staging a protest on Tuesday.

The school’s Head Boy, Goodluck Agwu, lamented the lack of electricity supply in the school. Agwu also stated that there are no security officers in the school and people walk in and out of the premises at any time.

Addressing the students at the school parade ground on Tuesday, the Nasarawa state Commissioner for Education, Aliyu Tijjani, said that government had taken measures to ensuring that the person that perpetrated this killing was brought to book.

“I want to express my profound dismay and sadness over what happened here yesterday. It is unfortunate, very very unfortunate. The government of Nasarawa state has already taken measures into ensuring that the person that perpetrated this killing is brought to book. He has already been arrested,” Tijani said.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Sadiq-Bello revealed that Khaleel is still in custody and will be arraigned for manslaughter, PUNCH reports.

 

“As far as I am concerned, the suspect is still in police custody and his car is at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department. As soon as investigation is concluded, he will be charged to court,” he said.
