The nominations for the 69th Annual Emmy Awards were unveiled on Thursday.
Westworld, which featured one of HBO’s most sexually explicit scene ever, lead the Emmy Award nominations with 22 nods.
The sci-fi drama jointly topped the field along with the long-running NBC variety show Saturday Night live.

Westworld, which stars Thandi Newton, shocked viewers last year when it showed a four-minute orgy scene with approximately 40 people.

This year’s Drama Series nominees include five first-timers distributed across broadcast, cable and digital platforms: Better Call Saul, The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale, House of Cards, Stranger Things, This Is Us and Westworld.

The nominees for best actress in a drama series include: Keri Russell, ‘The Americans’; Claire Foy, ‘The Crown’; Elisabeth Moss, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’; Robin Wright, ‘House of Cards’; Viola Davis, ‘How to Get Away with Murder’; Evan Rachel Wood, ‘Westworld’.
The Outstanding Comedy Series category includes newcomer Atlanta along with the acclaimed black-ish, Master of None, Modern Family, Silicon Valley, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Veep.
‘Saturday Night Live’ and the sci-fi drama ‘Westworld’ are at the top of the Emmy nominations with 22 bids each.
The long-running ‘SNL’ received a wealth of awards for its cast, hosts and guest stars, including one to Alec Baldwin for his recurring portrayal of President Donald Trump.
Other leading nominees announced Thursday in Los Angeles include ‘Feud: Bette and Joan’ and ‘Stranger Things’ with 18 nominations; ‘Veep’ with 17 bids, and ‘Big Little Lies’ and ‘Fargo’ with 16 nominations each.
Breakout network drama ‘This is Us’ received 11 nods, including the first best-drama series for a broadcast network show since ‘The Good Wife’ in 2011.
HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones,’ which dominated last year’s Emmys with 23 nods and 12 trophies, including its second consecutive best drama award, fell outside the eligibility window for Emmy consideration this year.
‘Orphan Black’ isn’t in the running for the same reason, depriving star Tatiana Maslany of the chance to repeat as best-drama actress.
The Emmys are scheduled to air Sept. 17 on CBS, with Stephen Colbert as host.
