National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has on Monday approved May 28 as the passing out day of Batch B Stream 1 corps members.

According to a statement by spokesperson of the service, Adenike Adeyemi, the event will be void of the usual ceremonial parade due to danger posed by coronavirus.

The spokesperson stated that the Certificate of National Service (CNS) would be issued to qualified corpers at the Local Government level, in line with COVID-19 protocols of social and physical distancing.

According to her, NYSC officers have been mobilised for the distribution of the certificate from a period of ten days.

Adeyemi stressed;

As a precautionary measure, the distribution shall be staggered for a period of ten days in the first instance, in order to remove anxiety from the concerned Corps Members, in addition to making the activity seamless and less cumbersome.

It is imperative to state that Corps Members who at present are not in their state of service need not violate the ban on inter-state journeys which is still in force.

Adeyemi expressed that corps members who are currently not in their respective states of service are expected to go back to collect their CNS when the inter-state travel ban is lifted.

She added;

Kindly note that unclaimed certificates shall be returned to the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, two weeks after the lifting of inter-state travel ban. Please, always stay in touch with our social media platforms, as well as the mainstream media for further information.

A full complement of NYSC Officers have been mobilised for the distribution and shall do so from ten service points in each of the Local Government Councils.

The service also urged the passing out members to observe strict discipline, orderliness, social distancing, use of facemask, hand sanitiser and proper washing of hands.

The Federal Government had in March ordered all corpers in the country to return to their respective homes as part of measures to curb the spread of the virus.
