An 85-year-old woman from Tshwane, South Africa, had a white wedding with her grandson 5 years after her husband’s death.
According to Daily Sun, when gogo Lenah Manamela married her husband David, they promised to be together forever.
Although they had a traditional ceremony, they always planned to have a white wedding.
But five years ago, her husband who only ever paid lobola, died. However, Lenah never forgot about the white wedding.
On Saturday, residents of Majaneng, near Hammanskraal in Tshwane, gathered for the gogo to have a symbolic white wedding with her grandson, also named David, who stood in for her late husband.
The wedding started at the bride’s home in Majaneng and last week, a ceremony was held at madala David’s parental home in Nokaneng, Mpumalanga.
As the pastor prayed, Lenah’s grandson took out the ring David asked his daughter Leah to buy before he died in 2010.
Leah was the one who first called a meeting with representatives from both her parents’ families, where they all agreed a wedding was the perfect way to honour her late father. The invitations sent out last month told guests they were being invited to a birthday party.
Everyone was surprised when Lenah appeared in a wedding dress and a cow was even slaughtered. Old women dressed in traditional clothing ululated with excitement. The gogo told Daily Sun she had a perfect day.
“I loved my husband so much. I felt deep inside I should make this wish shared by both of us come true,” she said.

#EndlessLove #Everlasting!!!
I’ve always wondered if their is still everlasting love in our present age, after reading this article, my hope have been restored.
Love looks beyond all obstacles, it’s selfless, honourable and brave, this guy forget about pride, he make is grandmother’s dream come true, to me that’s selfless and brave, he care less about what people like @Lionheart and @Adebiyi thinks, he stood in his grandfather’s stead, to fulfill his dream. The grandmother on the other hand was so much in love that she never gave up on her husband’s love, that she fulfill the promise they both made, she was dedicated, even after his death. The grandfather must really be special for them to look beyond the culture and society’s view. This to me is an act of bravery.
From what I decode from Moji’s article, I can see it’s not the guy marrying his grandmother but his grandfather , and I’m sure the grandfather is there in the spirit. Legally, I’m sure it’s the grandfather’s name that will be in the register, not the grandson, so technically it’s not the grandson marrying his grandmother. If their is truly an afterlife, I’m sure the grandfather will be so proud of his wife, for honouring him this way.
I hope y’all understand, this union is not sexual, like Adebiyi presumed, it’s just like those traditional marriage we have in Nigeria, where the husband to be is abroad and someone from his family stood for him or they put his picture on the seat.
This is the kinda love you see in Hollywood movies, now I’m convinced love is truly blind…
#IBelieve…
Haba Moji, wetin them wan consumate for there na? You wan kill the mama? Besides, that would be incest. But I thought marriage was ’till death do us part’
so much for tradition…
Thank you Mama for your undying love for your late husband.May his soul rest in peace.
The mother and son’s love is a strange attraction. However, if they are strong enough to withstand the wear and tear that comes with this, I wish them luck.
