Fresh off the back of his five Grammy awards, US rapper Kendrick Lamar has shocked his fan and rap lovers around the world with a surprise album.
The album which he calls ‘Untitled Unmastered’ is a an eight-track LP featuring outtakes from the recording session for his Grammy-winning album To Pimp A Butterfly.
Filled with jazz solos and politically-charged lyrics, it appears to be a companion piece to Butterfly, rather than a standalone record.
All of the tracks are untitled, save for the date they were recorded.

Interestingly it appears the album was prompted by basketball star LeBron James.

Following Kendrick’s incendiary Grammy Award performance – in which he debuted a verse that alluded to the 2012 death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin – the sportsman tweeted the Kendrick saying “you have to release those untitled tracks asap!”.
