Two White Police Officers Execute Black Man In The US,Sparks Riots
Protests have taken place in the US state of Louisiana after a video emerged appearing to show two white police officers holding down and shooting dead a black man.
The incident took place in the state capital, Baton Rouge,L Louisiana late on Tuesday after reports of a man threatening people with a gun outside a shop.
The victim, Alton Sterling, 37, died of gunshot wounds to the chest and back by two white officers which almost immediately drew a crowd of about 200 people to the scene creating a road block to stop the said officers from fleeing with the intention of killing the officers involved.
The video footage, which emerged hours after the shooting, showed the officers having a tussle with the man in a car park before he was cuffed then shot in the back and chest respectively. From eye witnesses,the culprit was unarmed and cooperating with the officers that subdued him which were both white.
The crowd was finally managed by the intervention of state county sheriff’s department who assured that both officers involved will be brought to justice.
The US has had over 1000 cases of police brutality to Black Americans since 2001 till date and the situation keeps getting worse.
Flowers and condolences have been left at the scene of the shooting.
