Large crowds had gathered on the Stamford Hill Estate in Hackney, London on Tuesday evening as the capital enjoyed the hottest day of the year hence the”Water Fight”. It was just a harmless way for the pupils from both schools to cool off from the harsh weather.

Adverts for the block party had circulated on social media in the days before the event and the Police were informed also said the organisers.

Footage on YouTube show crowds of people running from the scene as a squad of officers interrupted the event by confiscating the sound system and speakers claiming that the event was illegal and an avenue for public disturbance.

From an eye witness we were able to deduct that when police eventually tried to disperse the crowd shortly before 9pm, they were met with a ‘hostile’ reception.

Objects began to be hurled their direction and one officer was struck with what is believed to be a glass bottle and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

More violent scenes then erupted – with another officer being stabbed and two members of the public also suffering knife wounds as crowds shouted ‘Black Lives Matter‘.

Officers had to even be deployed from Scotland Yard to manage the escalating situation but alas, some police vehicles were damaged. Some officers suffered minor injuries as the crowd threw bottles and other items.

The police however denied that the violence was in anyway related to the Black Lives Matter protests, adding that many of their personnel has personally been involved in overseeing a Black Lives Matter protest in London, which has been wholly peaceful and that the unfortunate turn of events was not about Black Lives Matters, that may have been chanted in places, but about a group of people, who were committing violent acts of disorder against officers and members of the public.

The injured officers are currently undergoing treatment but no fatal injuries or  deaths have been reported.
