18-Year Old Australian Swimmer Shocks US Team
Australia has a new Olympic hero — and his name is Kyle Chalmers.
The 18-year-old stunned the field in the men’s 100-meters freestyle final to claim the gold medal and become the first Australian to win the event for his country.
The teenager was seventh line but powered through the final length to claim a shock victory.
He is Australia’s youngest swimming gold medalist since he announced himself on the world stage as a 17-year-old in Sydney.
It’s probably the biggest honor and the best thing I could do for my country,” he told reporters.
Congrats to him and Australia.
