“Arrest The Useless Rats!”- Robert Mugabe As He Calls For the Arrest of Zimbabwean Olympic Team
Robert Mugabe is at it again, making headlines for all the wrong reasons as usual.
This time around the president of Zimbabwe instructed the Commissioner General of Zimbabwe Police Republic, Augustine Chihuri, to arrest and detain the entire Zimbabwean Olympic team the minute they arrive at the Harare International Airport on Tuesday 23rd August 2016.
His reason? None of 31 athletes the country sent to the Olympics won a medal.none of them winning a medal. The closest one of the team members came to winning a medal was 8th position.
Mugabe was disgruntled with the team’s performance, terming it as a total waste of money, even referring to the athletes as rats.
“We have wasted the country’s money on these rats we call athletes.” He went saying.“If you are not ready to sacrifice and win even copper or brass medals (4th and 5th positions respectively) as our neighbors in Botswana did, then why do you go to waste out money.” He went on ranting.
He pointed out that if the country needed people to just go to Brazil to sing the national anthem and hoist the country’s flag, then the government would have sent beautiful girls and handsome guys from the University of Zimbabwe instead.
On that disgruntled note, he went ahead to say that the money that was invested in the team meant to represent the country could have been used to provide amenities as well as build schools.
“This situation is like an impotent man who is married to five women, what is the essence? I will make sure we share the cost across board for all of them to pay back to government chest even if it takes ten years to recoup. Now it turns out to be a soft loan we have given them to go and visit Brazil as tourists. They are useless” He concluded.
One of the reasons athletes don’t do well at the Olympics is lack of preparation. Talented Athletes train for years on end before coming to the Olympics, and those are ‘talented athletes’. Chances are the Zimbabwean athletes were sent to the Olympics with little or no preparation.
