#Rio2016: Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson Wins Women’s 100m Final

Elaine Thompson of Jamaica has won the women’s 100 meters sprint at the Rio Olympics in a time of 10.71 seconds on Saturday.


Tori Bowie of the United States finished second with a time of 10:83 to take silver, while  defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica won bronze with a time of 10:86, her seasons best. 



Interestingly, Côte d’Ivoire’s Marie-Josee Ta Lou also finished with a time of 10:86 seconds but was given the 4th position. She is the closest African woman to have come close to winning a 100m sprint medal in the last 3 Olympics.
