The tragedy began when a man called Azubike began to insult another man from an opposing team by the name Samson Akase following the loss of Celtic to Barcelona.
According to him, the fight broke out and fellow football fans at the scene promptly intervened and successfully pacified the two of them, after which they dispersed from the scene.
Two days after that event, he said he was alerted by a co-tenant of his that someone wanted him outside.
Akase, who said he had been asleep when he was called, said he arrived outside and surprisingly came face to face with Azubike, not realizing that the man was still upset over their altercation over the match. He said Azubike immediately pulled out a dagger from his pocket, stabbed him in the stomach and fled the scene.
According to him, he was then rushed by his neighbors to Gogoruwa Hospital for medical attention, and later to St Luke’s Hospital where it gave up the ghost due to series of fatal punctures to his liver.
