2016 TIME Magazine’s Person Of The Year Is Donald Trump
Billionaire business man turned President elect of the United States of America Donald J Trump is TIME Magazine’s person of the year 2016.
He was nominated alongside 11 others, including former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, record-breaking Rio Olympics gymnast Simone Biles, music superstar Beyoncé, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Others were Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, head of the U.K. Independence Party Nigel Farage, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, CRISPR Scientists, and The Flint Whistleblowers. Read more about the nominees HERE.
Last year’s winner was German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Other past winners include Pope Francis, President Barack Obama, Rudy Giuliani, Adolf Hitler and The Computer.
The annual selection is determined by Time magazine editors and highlights a person, group, idea or object that had the most influence on news that year. The tradition began in 1927 with the selection of famed aviator Charles Lindbergh.
According to TIME, Trump was picked because he had the greatest influence, for better or worse, on the events of the year.
Many may not align with the personality of Trump but it is difficult to deny his incredible impact on the news in 2016 ― for better or worse.
