Aisha Buhari Showers Love On Soldiers Injured During Fierce Boko Haram Wars
Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, on Tuesday, donated Christmas gifts to soldiers injured in Sambisa Forest while fighting terrorist group, Boko Haram.
The gifts were distributed on Mrs Buhari’s behalf by Mrs Nana Shettima, the Chairperson of Mrs Aisha Buhari’s Committee on Distribution of Donated Items (WIPCOMDI) at Maimalari cantonment in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state.
The gifts were said to be beverage packages.
According to PM News, Mrs Shettima had equally paid visits to other injured troops at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri.
According to her, Mrs Buhari’s gesture is to celebrate Christmas festivities with the injured and to appreciate their efforts in restoring peace.
“Both religions say how good and pleasant it is when God makes us enjoy together in peace, tranquillity, progress and unity.
“I am not here in my own capacity alone but am wearing two caps; I am here representing the wife of the president and as a wife of Borno governor,’’ she said.
Mrs Shettima commended the gallant troops for crushing the remnants of the Boko Haram islamist sect and restoring peace to Borno, the north-eastern region of the country and the nation at large.
The army has been carrying out what it termed a final push in Sambisa Forest. It recently announced the capture of Ground Zero, believed to be Boko Haram’s operational base.
A number of soldiers have however at different times sustained serious injuries while fighting Boko Haram. Some others have lost their lives. It is believed that such visits to the soldiers injured in Sambisa Forest will help boost the morale of the fighting forces.
