Lagos Residents Beat Up Eko DISCO Official For Disconnecting Electricity On Christmas Eve
An official of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko DISCO) was on Friday attacked by residents of a building on Fish Pond Street, in the Ojo area of Lagos state.
The Eko DISCO official identified as Francis Idoko was said to have disconnected the power cable leading into the house on the grounds that it was illegally connected.
The residents thereafter asked Mr Idoko to reconnect the line but he refused following which they rained blows on him.
According to the Punch, the residents equally unleashed a dog on the Eko DISCO official.
“The house has a prepaid metre but the residents did not go through the right channel,’’ Idoko said.
He explained further: “We were on routine assignment and in the process, we came across the building; worked there and continued with other buildings on the street.
“It was while in the adjourning street that one of the residents approached me and requested to know why the house was disconnected.
“I followed him to the house and he locked the gate against me,’’ he said.
One of the residents, in response to the Eko DISCO official’s claims said the residents had contributed some amount of money to purchase the metres.
“Many of us, few days ago, recharged with as much as N6,000 to enable us enjoy the Christmas and the New Year holidays; only for us to be cut off by this man,’’ Adeola Oghenetaga said.
According to her, the dog which attacked Idoko was not chained and only acted in favour of the residents it was familiar with.
