Minister of Sports and Youth Development Solomon Dalung yesterday took time to tour NYSC camp in Kubwa,Abuja.Disclosing the news he said.
‘During The Inspection Tour to NYSC Camp Kubwa Abuja. I took out time today to diligently do the step by step inspection of facilities, the kind of food serves to the corps members, the medical facilities available, the drugs made available to them and also the quality of the service in that regard, their hostels and also the kind of beds provided, their sanitary environment and all that involves their wellbeing.
It was an exercise that has sufficiently equipped me with first knowledge different from a 2nd or 3rd party information. I have noted areas of genuine concerns and we shall treat them with the immediate priority they deserved’.
He also said anybody who said NYSC should be scrapped is short sighted. He described the calls for scrapping of NYSC as sheer beer parlor talk.He said this while addressing the 2016 Batch ‘B’ Youth Corps Members posted to the Federal Capital Territory on Monday at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Kubwa. He called on the youth corpers not to believe the “beer parlour gossips in the social media” that Buhari was about to scrap the scheme.
“The NYSC ranks high in the priority of President muhammadu Buhari, therefore, the present administration is taking steps to improve the scheme because the programme is so dear to the President.”
He described those calling for the scrapping of the scheme as short sighted, saying their advocacy was capable of leading to derailment of Nigeria’s corporate unity.Dalung also submitted that the NYSC scheme had grown to become the backbone of Nigeria’s national unity, adding that “it has also created and fostered progressive relationships among youths from diverse cultures across the country that cannot be taken for granted.”
