Despite heavy military presence currently covering every stretch of land in the country, stubborn Gambian president, Yahya Jammeh has adamantly refused to step down.

This comes a day after his tenure has expired and the swearing-in of his duly elected successor, Adama Barrow.

New information about his steep refusal to cede power came from Gambia’s information minister, Sidie Njie, who has informed BBC that Yahyah Jammeh has no intention of leaving office.

Umaru Fofana, a BBC journalist revealed this in a tweet.

“Just interviewed #Gambia’s information minister Sidie Njie. He says President Jammeh is going nowhere. #BBCAfrica.” Fofana tweeted.

Sources inside ECOWAS are however positive that a military recourse might be the way to go very soon as the tension in the country rises.

Meanwhile thousands of people have already left the country already, all in a bid to avoid been caught between fires if things should get messy.
