Wizkid, Yemi Alade & Tiwa Savage Boycott Grammy Awards Night Despite Getting Special Invites
The 59th Grammy Awards has come and gone and some of our Nigerian stars were not present at the award ceremony.
The mind blowing show saw Beyonce offer a jaw-dropping, homage to motherhood in a segment that set social media on fire and Adele opening the show with her hit ‘Hello‘.
We however couldn’t ignore the fact that Nigerian stars like Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Yemi Alade were absent.
One would expect a Wizkid who got nominated be present at the prestigious ceremony but reverse was the case.
The Nigerian pop star made the list for his contribution to Drake’s 2016 “Views” album which was nominated for Album Of The Year.
The singer was a prominent contributor on the lead single, ‘One Dance’, where he is nominated as a guest artiste, and also as a producer.
Recall that Alade on January 2, 2017, got an invite to the Grammy awards at Staples Center on Feb. 12, 2017, in Los Angeles.
The ‘Tum bum‘ star shared the letter of invite via her Twitter account. Yemi was acknowledged by the Grammys Recording Academy for her hard work and African appeal among other qualities.
But she was notably absent during the ceremony. A quick look at her social media feeds puts the ‘Kissing’ star in Sweden two days ago.
Yemi visited the Abba Museum while Tiwa Savage went for DJ Khaled’s album title announcement event in Beverly Hills.
Then on Friday, February 10, 2017, she took to the 2017 Essence’s ‘Black women In Music’ official Grammy week event where she stunned in a matching sequin look from Youseff Akbar was styled by foremost stylist Ade Samuel.
