Yak The Bull! Yakubu Aiyebeni Signs For Coventry City
Nigerian international Yakubu Aiyegbeni has re-launched his career by signing for Coventry City until the end of the season.
Yakubu, 34, joins the League One outfit after a brief stint in the Turkish League with Kayserispor.
“We’re pleased to have secured the signing of Yakubu, who brings vast experience and a terrific goal record,” Coventry manager Russell Slade told the club’s official website.
“His professional career speaks for itself, having scored consistently at the highest level of English football, and will act as a superb role model for the younger players.
“He is astute on the ball, has clear quality and presence, and we’ll continue to work on his match fitness as we prepare for the final 16 games of this season.”
Coventry, rooted to the bottom of the League One table, will hope Yakubu can regain his scoring form of old.
Big and powerful in his peak years, Yakubu scored 130 goals during his time in England, playing in the Premier League for Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Everton, as well as enjoying stints with Leicester City and Reading.
He last played for the Super Eagles during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where he was guilty of a glaring miss against South Korea.
