Embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has distanced himself from a live broadcast of Radio Biafra scheduled to go up today in the U.S.
Premium Times reports that Kanu also made it clear that his deputy at IPOB, Uche Mefor, has nothing to do with the scheduled launch.
Speaking through his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor on Sunday, the detained spiritual leader of IPOB and erstwhile director of Radio Biafra said, while he was aware of the operation, he never gave his blessings to it.
“Radio Biafra has approval and authorization to set up in America according to the U.S. laws,” Mr. Kanu said on Sunday. “But neither me nor my deputy, Uche Mefor, gave approval for it to go on air today in America.”
A leader of the separatist group, Leonard Anemene, had disclosed in a statement Friday that Radio Biafra was slated to go on air live in the U.S. on Sunday.
He added that the project, whose exact transmission location has yet to be disclosed, ought to have been up and running for some time now but for some problems with logistics.
This comes as a rather curious decision from Kanu, who recently had six of the 11-count charge against him by the Federal Government dropped.
As IPOB grapples with legitimacy battles at home, its leadership would ordinarily be expected to throw its weight behind any movement originating from the U.S.
Perhaps the self-styled religious leader knows something others don’t; he’s a ‘prophet’ after all.
