Two Suspected Robbers Shot Dead During Attack On Dangote Company

Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead by men of the Ogun State Police Command during an attack on the Dangote cement factory in Ibese, Ogun State, last Saturday.

According to the spokesperson for the command, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, the two suspects were members of a seven-man gang, which carried out the attack at dawn.

The gang members, who were allegedly armed with weapons, targeted some armoured cables stored at the company’s material section.

Oyeyemi said, “The policemen on duty at the company were alerted by the company security men and they promptly moved to the scene.

“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun battle, which lasted about 45 minutes.

“At the end of the encounter,one of the robbers was shot dead while another was arrested with serious gunshot wounds but died on the way to the hospital. Other members of the gang escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries.”

The police recovered at the scene one locally made single-barrelled gun, 14 expended cartridges, a dagger and a burglary equipment.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has appealed to members of the public especially hospitals to report anybody with a gunshot injury to the police.

He also assured residents of the state of adequate security before, during and after the forthcoming Yuletide.
