Health Worker Arrested In Ogun State For Burning Housemaid With Hot Knife
The Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old community health worker for using a hot knife to inflict injuries on the body of her 17-year-old housemaid, Janet.
The suspect, Yewande Gbadebo, mother of two and a health worker in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the state, had claimed that the housemaid ate the bread she kept at home without her approval.
The arrest of Yewande, was facilitated by the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Ogun State chapter, following a tip-off.
The chairman of the committee, Olayinka Folarin, in company of an official of the Child Protection Network (CPN) traced the suspect to her shop at Iberekodo area of Abeokuta, but she was there.
They handed over the victim to the police, who subsequently arrested Mrs Gbadebo. She was taken to the Anti-Human Trafficking unit of the Police Command where on interrogation, she allegedly confessed to have committed offence.
Confirming the arrest, spokesperson for the Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect would be taken to court on completion of investigation.
The victim, Janet, an indigene of Benue State, said she had been staying with the suspect for over three years but was not allowed to go to school or learn a trade.
