PDP Gives Assurance Of Free And Fair Governorship Primaries
The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has allayed the fear of its aspirants in the upcoming primaries to choose candidate for the July 14 governorship poll.
The party said all aspirants would participate in the primaries, adding that it would be a fair and transparent exercise.
The PDP also said all aspirants were free to officially express their intention to contest for the party’s leadership.
It said the adoption of the Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola by some stakeholders would not stop the primaries or other aspirants from participating.
The party, which spoke through the state Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo, said there was no need for the aspirants to entertain any fear or see themselves as being shut out of the election slated for April 15 and May 15 this year.
It, therefore, enjoined all aspirants to focus more on the primaries rather than paying attention to the adoption of somebody by some people.
“Party members and leaders know that our party is disciplined and law abiding. The Electoral Law stipulates the conduct of primaries to choose candidates for elections and INEC has set out the timetable for the election and we cannot do otherwise. We want aspirants and party leaders not to allow themselves to be used for any sinister motive.
“‘What all aspirants who are really interested in the election should be pursuing now are strategies to woo delegates to their sides and praying for a successful outing in the governorship election, both for themselves and the party,” Adebayo said.
