13-Year-Old Dies While Scrambling For Bauchi Lawmaker’s Money
Tragedy struck, yesterday, when a 13-year-old boy, Bappah Adamu, died while scrambling for money thrown at a crowd near Bauchi-Maiduguri Highway.
It was gathered that the boy was knocked down by a vehicle, while he tried to get at money thrown by the member representing Ganjuwa/Darazo federal constituency at the National Assembly.
The incident occurred at Konkiyel town, when the lawmaker was leaving after visiting the site of a project he is executing in the town.
A source in the town, Safiyanu Konkiyel, who confirmed the incident, said the money was thrown into the air near the highway and people rushed to pick the Naira notes scattered on the road.
Contacted on telephone, the Divisional Police Officer in Darazo did not confirm the incident, saying that the matter has not been reported to them.
Speaking to Vanguard on telephone concerning the matter, a politician, Nasuru Darazo, said that he was aware that the lawmaker visited Darazo, Soro and Konkyel on Saturday and revealed that he was aware that the lawmaker was booed in Soro, but cannot confirm the death of the 13-year-old boy in Konkiyel town.
An electricity transformer donated to Soro town was earlier rejected by people of the town.
According to reports, the people rejected the power transformer donated by the lawmaker because, according to them, he had neither executed any constituency project nor visited the area since he was elected in 2015.
The lawmaker was reportedly booed when he visited Soro town on Saturday and pictures of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Special Assistant to Governor Mohammed Abubakar on Non-Governmental Organisations, NGOs, and Social Investment Progra-mmes, SIPs, Mansur Manu Soro, were waved at him.
