If We Can’t Maintain Aircrafts, Let’s Use Witchcraft To Fly’ – Senator Sam Anyanwu
Senator Sam Anyanwu, who contributed to a debate on the need to minimise air mishaps in the country, said if aircraft cannot be properly maintained, witchcraft should be used as a means to fly.
The Nigerian Senator who represents Imo East in the red chamber, also said a bailout fund alternative should be given to airlines to enhance their operation. Here’s what Senator Sam Anyanwu said;
“It is shameful that Nigeria does not have any national carrier. I think every responsible government should look at this issue. If the aircraft cannot be maintained, let’s use witchcraft and start flying.
That is the truth. Where is our national carrier? The government should look at the airline sector. Foreigners don’t come here (Nigeria) because it is not safe. Government should pay attention to the sector.”
Few weeks ago, we reported that one of the passengers on a Dana flight, Dapo Sanwo, said the door panel of the aircraft was loose all through the flight, and described it as an indication of ‘lack of maintenance’
Another passenger, Ola Brown, who took to her twitter page to vent her frustration, said the experience was scary.
“Flew Dana. Exit door was unstable throughout flight. As we touched down, it fell off. Scary stuff,” she wrote on twitter.
“I was closer to the front so when I heard the sound, (I) thought it was an explosion. (I) couldn’t quite comprehend that it (the door) had just fallen off…”
However the airline claimed that the door of its aircraft fell off because a passenger attempted to open it.
A statement sent to Premium Times and signed by Kingsley Ezenwa, Media and Communications Manager at Dana Air, said the incident could not have happened if no one tried to open the door.
“We wish to state categorically that this could never have happened without a conscious effort by a passenger to open it (exit door),” the statement said.
