Shiites To Buhari: Zakzaky, Wife Shouldn’t Die In Detention
Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (MNI), Shiites, have again urged the Federal Government to ensure that their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky or his wife, does not die in detention. The body said the President would be held responsible, if the couple died in custody, as they are worried by the deteriorating health of El-Zakzaky and his wife, since they were kept away from circulation after the clash between soldiers and MNI members.
In a statement by their spokesman, Mallam Ibrahim Musa, in Kaduna, yesterday, the Shiites said: “In the last couple of days, news of further deterioration of the health situation of our Leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, filtered through and the government is denying him necessary and urgent medical attention.
“The Sheikh, who was shot severally more than two years ago and lost his left eye in the process, is at a great risk of losing the other eye, except something drastic is done.
“El-Zakzaky suffered mild stroke in January this year, consequent on the stress and psychological trauma he has had to face, associated with his poor physical condition in the illegal detention and the lack of adequate care.”
The group said it was unacceptable and disturbing that their leader and his wife’s failing health did not make government to at least obey the court judgment of more than a year ago, which declared him innocent.
