The notorious Fulani herdsmen have broken loose again. Our reporters gathered that they allegedly killed 32 Tiv villagers at several locations across the southern senatorial district of Nasarawa State.

Reports reaching us said that a fresh attack was launched on Monday night. The attack had seven casualties, with about 15 houses gutted with fire in the same Keana Local Government Area.

There has been reports earlier about the Fulani herdsmen attacks on Saturday and Sunday. These earlier attackd were purportedly carried out simultaneously in Awe, Keana, Obi and Doma local government areas, all in Nasarawa state.

The fresh attack from Monday night which left seven people dead was reportedly the continuation of the previous ones that left about nineteen people badly injured in its wake.

The state Commissioner for Water Resources in Nasarawa state, Gabriel Akaaka, told news reporters that the gunmen forced their way into his house and set it ablaze. Here’s what he had to say:

“It is true the gunmen believed to be Fulani herders raided my house this morning and set it ablaze.

The Tiv villagers are stranded. I have just spoken to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Bello, to deploy his security personnel and security operatives in the state to the area in order to rescue the villagers.”

Also confirming the incident to news reporters, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kennedy Idirisu, said that the command only learnt of the attack early on Monday. He said,

“There was an attack on Monday morning, but the command has yet to receive details as regards the number of people that lost their lives in the early hour attacks by unknown gunmen.”

We daresay that the activities of these herdsmen is fast becoming a menace and a threat to national security. We call on the Federal government to curb the excesses of this group to avert impending disaster.
