Coogler says the scenes had to be deleted because “it didn’t work inside of the confines of our film”. He said making the scene was for the audience to realize that Okoye and W’Kabi were husband and wife.
The scene is a confrontation between Okoye and W’Kabi about where Wakanda was going after King T’Challa’s death. In the scene, they’re both furious with each other. She’s mad that he helped Erik Killmonger enter the Tribal Council room, and he’s mad that T’Challa didn’t bring him Ulysses Klaue who killed W’Kabi’s parents.
The scene also shows the couple were talking about Okoye stepping down from the Wakandan army, Dora Milaje, where she serves as the General.
Another deleted scene shows what happened after T’Challa was crowned king. Sitting with Zuri, the new king shares his loving memories of his King-father at his prime.
“My whole life I would watch him, wearing the suit. He could pick up a grown man with one hand, run as fast as a zebra. And he told me he was too old to carry the mantle of panther. He would pass it to me and just be king, ” T’Challa reminiscences.
Zuri replies with humour: “He told me he was too fat to fit the suit.”
T’Challa then goes on to lament that he could not save his father from the attack at the UN. He asks Zuri why T’Chaka, who always raised his son to protect Wakanda and not trust the outside world, changed his mind, which ultimately led to his death.
