BodyGuard: A Political Thriller That Will Keep You On The Edge (Review)
This one is for the action lovers. But Bodyguard has a bit of romance as it is thrilling too. In fact some have described it as an action packed political thriller, enough to keep you glued to your seat, make you angry and even cry, depending on which episode you’re watching.
The show, which stars (Game of Thrones Rob -King of the North before he was murdered at the red wedding) Richard Madden as the Bodyguard David Budd and Keeley Hawes as Secretary of State Julia Montague consists of just 6 episodes. It centers around how veteran David Budd finds work as a police sergeant with London’s Metropolitan Police Service. He is assigned to protect the home secretary, Julia Montague MP, a controversial and ambitious politician who has plans to introduce invasive new surveillance powers for security forces to combat terrorism. Budd becomes attached to Montague and both have an affair. He also deals with physical and psychological scars from his time serving in Afghanistan, and the aftermath of a disaster which his quest for truth about almost costs him his life.
The show started with a plot that suddenly changes midpoint, introducing new twists that creates thrilling suspense as the mysteries begin to unfold. Infact, the midpoint disaster was so shocking that it completely changed the story which initially had a strong romantic theme.

The protagonist,David Budd played by Madden gives the performance of his life in this show and it is no surprise that critic sites Rotten Tomatoes rates it a whooping 98% and IMDB 8.3/10. In fact, his etiquette, charisma, tormented soul, and cool demeanour had a James Bond feel to it, and I wager that he will be considered to play the role in the nearest future.
One of the best things of this series is the fact that it has many elements: Action, Drama, Mystery, Romance, Politics etc. The last episode was particularly shocking, and super emotional and at some point I almost cried. The show ended well and tied all loose ends, but it was so good that I really hope that it is renewed for another season.
Bodyguard brought a refreshing fillip of excitement, and I loved it and highly recommend. The fact that it’s just six episodes makes it easier to watch too, especially if you’re not one who watches a lot of shows because of the time factor.
