Nigeria’s first and only President of Nigeria’s Second Republic(1979–1983), has died at age 93. The former President died after a brief illness at the National hospital in Abuja.
Shagari, became president after General Olusegun Obasanjo, then a military head, handed over power to him(a transition from military to civilian rule) but his administration was toppled by General Muhammadu Buhari(now President) in 1983.
His grand son, Bello Shagari, the president of the National youth council of Nigeria, NYCN, made the announcement via his Twitter handle on Friday.
He wrote:
I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after brief illness at the National hospital, Abuja.
