According to PUNCH Metro, Akinde, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, had visited a bar in company with his colleagues on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, to have some drinks before the hoodlums besieged the bar and shot him dead.

Akinde’s elder brother, Adekunle, who stated that the police investigating the matter said his brother was killed because he did not allow the hoodlums to rob him, added that his findings revealed that there was no robbery as his late brother’s belongings were left intact after he was killed.

Akinde’s son, Tunde, told PUNCH Metro that his father’s death was a set-up because his killers traced him to the bar where he was murdered. The 26-year-old said,

“I was at home when a lady walked up to me and asked me the last time I saw my dad; I said it had been a while and she told me to call him. I tried his number but it rang out; she said she could not say anything but advised me to visit his office. When I got there, I was surprised to meet my mum’s younger sister and my dad’s elder brother and some family members.

“They were having a meeting with the DPO of the Ijanikin Police Station. When they finished, I asked after my dad and was told that he was shot. They said we needed to check him at the Badagry General Hospital. When we got there, it was his corpse I saw. I was depressed.

“The police officers investigating the case at the SCIID, Yaba, said my dad was set up; they said how did the hoodlums managed to enter the bar and head straight for his table to kill him if it wasn’t planned. He was not the only one at the beer parlour, so how were they able to locate his table? So, it appeared like they traced him to the place.”

The wife of the deceased, Kudi, who is also a police officer, said she wanted justice, adding that she got to know about the death of Akinde from a colleague, who briefed her about the incident.

The mother of three said,

“I was at home with my children. A police officer told me about the incident and what I was told was that my husband went for a birthday party and some hoodlums came to the gathering and shot him dead. I want the police to help me investigate this case so that the hoodlums can be arrested and brought to justice.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, who confirmed the incident to Punch Nigeria, said the command had commenced investigation into the events that led to the death of Akinde.
