The Federal Government has approved the sum of N33,000 as the new NYSC allowance, making provision for it in the 2020 budget, NYSC DG revealed on Wednesday.
Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Director-General of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, revealed the new amount Corps Members’ will receive as monthly allowance today while speaking to Corps Members at the NYSC Bauchi State Secretariat. He added that the approved sum of thirty-three thousand naira is in line with the new National Minimum Wage.
He also disclosed that provision for the new allowance has been made in 2020 budget, adding that payment would commence as soon as funds are released by the appropriate authorities.
In September, Ibrahim had hinted that the monthly allowance of corps members would be increased
“immediately the federal government starts the payment of the new minimum wage”.
“Your monthly allowance would be increased immediately the Federal Government starts the payment of the new minimum wage to all public servants nationwide,”
he said in an address delivered at the NYSC orientation camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.
Minister for youth and sports development Sunday Dare has also confirmed the increase.
