The first major award ceremony for the movie industry- the Golden Globes– has taken place, leaving some celebrated and some sad. One of the most profound wins for the evening was Joaquin Phoenix who knocked out Adam Driver and Christian Bale to win best actor for the movie, Joker.
Also, 1917 was one of the most victorious movies, taking home the award for the Best picture, while Renée Zellweger won best actress for Judy.
However, Joaquin Phoenix’s speech may not have pleased everyone, but it was certainly memorable. It covered climate change issues and a plea for celebrities to use their private jets less often.
Russell Crowe, though not present because of the bush fire disaster in Australia, picked up the best acting award. Olivia Colman took best actress in a drama series, The Crown, and Laura Dern in her role in Marriage Story won a supporting actress award.
Succession took two awards overall, as did Chernobyl and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag. The movie producer, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood won best picture (comedy/musical) and best screenplay.
Surprisingly, Game of Thrones‘ only nomination came for Kit Harington in the best actor in a drama TV series category and sadly, he didn’t win.
