Twitter Users Join Senator Abaribe To Demand President Buhari’s Resignation
The Minority Leader of the Senate, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign immediately due to his inability to curtail the alarming security challenges in the country.
This statement which caused a stir on the floor of the red chamber on Wednesday has led to an outrage from Nigerians on a micro-blogging platform, Twitter as they react the call.
Abaribe who spoke after the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi, presented his motion on rising security challenges in the country.
The senator said the attitude of the president to insecurity in the country was surprising, adding that those who live by propaganda will die by propaganda.
Abaribe explained that his call for resignation was a build-up on the fact that the Buhari-administration alleged that the insurgent group, Boko Haram has been defeated.
During his statement, he expressed that;
The hard work that was supposed to be done to secure the country was not done because of the propaganda. Excuses for non-performance is now staring them in the face. Niger and Jos killings by Boko Haram terrorists indicated that the insurgency war was far from over. Therefore, opposition members in the National Assembly are of the opinion that Buhari should resign from office.
The senator while calling for a change noted that;
Nigerians will go to the government and ask the government to resign because they did not elect the chief of staff, the police IG, service chiefs and others. Nigerians voted a government into power. We are going with stones to stone them now because they have failed.
This led to an uproar in the red chamber as those against the motion reacted to the call.
In the bid to pacify everyone, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, appealed to his colleagues to approach the issue with caution.
