Africa is free of coronavirus as the first suspected case in Egypt has tested negative for the deadly virus, Covid-19

The World Health Organization (WHO) who made the announcement on February 19 said the foreigner previously confirmed to have the COVID-19 coronavirus in Egypt is on his way to recovery, after latest tests showed he was “no longer carrying the virus”.

On February 14, WHO Egypt had announced that Egypt had confirmed its first suspected case of the coronavirus, the first known suspected case of the virus in Africa.

According to Reuters report, WHO spokeswoman Inas Hamam in an email said;

He (the patient) will remain in quarantine until the full 14-day period is over and will be undergoing further required tests to ensure he was fully recovered.

Egypt’s Health Ministry spokesperson, Khaled Megahed explained that a medical team has been conducting periodic checks and analysis on the Chinese national. 

The PCR analysis was conducted six times over three consecutive days under the supervision of the Health Ministry and the WHO, and it came back negative in all the tests. 

Egypt remains the only known country with a suspected case of coronavirus in Africa.
