Just In: Supreme Court Sacks Bayelsa Governor-Elect, David Lyon, Installs PDP’s Douye As Governor
The Supreme Court has sacked David Lyon of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Bayelsa State governor and his deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo barely 24-hours to their swearing-in ceremony.
The Apex court also declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Douye Diri as the authentic winner of the election.
The Supreme Court sacked Lyon for presenting a running mate with a fake certificate in the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the state.
A five-man panel of the Supreme Court led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili ordered INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to the All Progressives Congress’ candidates as the winners of the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the state.
Justice Peter-Odili asked INEC to issue a fresh certificate to the governorship candidate with the highest votes cast and wide geographical spread in the governorship election.

The Supreme Court judgement against Lyon in Bayelsa expressly asked INEC to give the certificate of return to the next party with the highest vote and SPREAD. In Imo, they asserted that Hope had the SPREAD, but guess what? He didn’t! They SC clearly goofed in that Imo judgement.

Bayelsa does not compensate for the Injustice done to Imo State and Courts must be guided by the Constitution and not petty political sentiments.
Justice has been done in Bayelsa for anyone who followed the case, but it is no compensation for Imo State.
