‘Northern Women Mix Cooking Seasoning And Soft Drinks To Get High’- Twitter User Alleges
A Twitter user has claimed northern women are mixing Maggi – a cooking seasoning and Coke – a soft drink, in a bid to get intoxicated.
The user who tweets with the handle @KoloKennethK, wrote;
Wow. I just learnt something today. Arewa women are getting high on ₦20 Maggi dissolved in ₦100 coke (in plastic bottle). With ₦120, they get the same feeling tramadol or cough syrup gives.

The Nigerian government has consistently been making moves to reduce the rate of drug abuse in the country, especially in the North but it seems drug abusers keep on inventing deadly means to feed their addiction.

Just did a quick search & maybe this might allude to the issue- Opium poppies contain a small amount of opiates used in some seasonings & soda has some mind altering chemicals similar to cocaine, probably not enough to cause a physical dependency but possibly a reaction of both?

There’s also Aspartame, the chemical sweetener used to replace high fructose corn syrup in diet soda and this activates reward centers in your brain. Caffeine is a psychostimulant in most sodas and when combined with aspartame’s dopamine effects, it increases addictive behavior.

Thanks for your expose
There’s a lot of ignorance out there. My findings were as a result of literature searches and reading up very quickly after @adetoyan asked me for some info but I’ll definitely do some more independent research on this. Too much going on tbh…

Horse dung actually refers to some strains of cannabis that look like horse dung before being crushed and smoked and not the actual thing. Loud is another name for it
