Reactions Trail Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun Speech While Addressing Sagamu Protest
Twitter users are expressing displeasure at the speech of Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun when he addressed members of the public about the protest in Sagamu where three persons were killed by police bullets.
Angry youths of Akarigbo area of Remo land in Ogun state had on February 24 protested the killing of Remo star football player, Tiamiyu Kazeem by operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Abiodun had on February 24 addressed citizens of the state, warning those angling to capitalise on the crisis in Sagamu to commit a crime.

According to the governor, some of the protesters attempted to attack a Divisional Police Station, burn an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) and loot banks and local government headquarters.
The governor said;
Regrettably, we understand that some fatalities were recorded thereby, which is also being investigated. Security has been further beefed up, including the involvement of the Nigerian Army and other law enforcement agencies. Indeed, I have also briefed the Presidency on this incident and received assurances that the security agencies have been directed to do all that is required to fully restore normalcy, within the ambit of the law.
He added that;
Let me assure all the good citizens of Ogun State and residents of Sagamu that they should go about their lawful business without any fear of molestation whatsoever.
I wish to sound a note of warning that anyone that attempts to capitalise on the unfortunate incident to foment any trouble or engage in activity that is in breach of public peace and order will be subjected to the full force of law.
He urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards to refrain from confrontation with law enforcement agents whilst carrying out their responsibilities of maintaining law and order.
The governor concluded saying;
As a governor and a parent, the loss of Tiamiyu Kazeem is saddening enough and everything should be done to avoid any further loss or injury.

However, Twitter users are reacting to his address, describing it as insensitive and lacks empathy.

With the kind of Governors you people stampede to power these days, the people needs no enemies. Imagine the lame and unconscionable statement the chief security officer of the state where human lives were sacrificed over stupidity and demonic impunity. Incredible! 😒 https://t.co/a6OTJBJXiK

As for the Gov of Ogun state Mr Dapo Abiodun, I’m shocked at his announcement on #SagamuOnFire I thought he was a splendid individual, yet I wasn’t right, women and refined men meet the more seasoned form of Yahaya Bello. #EndImpunity #EndSarsNow

That speech by the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun is the most infuriating speech I’ve ever heard from a Governor. Not even a single word to acknowledge and regret the extra judicial killings of peaceful protesters by @PoliceNG

No empathy whatsoever!! Shame!#SagamuOnFire
Dapo Abiodun lacks empathy.his speech lacks the right words. Someone that has lost a son ( DJ OLU, davido Friend )before should know how it feels. I’m disappointed https://t.co/MyZxMTmggT

Where is this man’s empathy? Do you become a governor and lose all sense of empathy? Threatening fire and brimstone on those engaging in harmless demonstration. Do better Dapo Abiodun. https://t.co/guG3lGfKIp

3 people died in Sagamu as a result of #PoliceBrutality and all the Governor could do was to read a speech threatening people protesting the killings. Dapo Abiodun is totally useless! You don’t kill people & tell their relatives not to cry! It’s time to #EndSarsNow#SagamuOnFire

Gov. Dapo Abiodun once again showed his incompetence, he showed his weakness and showed he’s not for the people of Ogun State, the Akarigbo of Remo showed leadership, he was handson and did the best within his power. It’s insensitive for Gov. Dapo to blame people who are grieving

I hope Governor Dapo Abiodun having lost a son before too understands the pain and agony that the parents of the late Tiamiyu are currently feeling and as such will ensure Justice prevails and further ensure measures are taken to prevent such occurrence again. #EndSarsNow

That press statement by Governor Dapo Abiodun is a disappointing one.

In the middle of events that caused deaths, you don’t issue threats.
People are grieving for losing their loved ones and the police further used live ak47 rounds on them while protesting, klling some others.

But all Dapo Abiodun the Ogun State governor can do is to blame those grieving?

Cos I can’t imagine a State Gov so insensitive & provocative.

Blame Governor Dapo Abiodun’s poor response and intelligence gathering mechanisms immediately the death of Tiamiyu occurred.
— Sir Ariyo-Dare Atoye (@AriyoAristotle) February 25, 2020
The bane of our leadership in Nigeria is this lack of proactive approach to issues.
He could have helped to avert or tame the incident that followed. https://t.co/9tv7srLgny
Dapo Abiodun lacks empathy.his speech lacks the right words to assuage Sagamu Youths.
