Just In: Three Persons Feared Dead As Protest Rocks Sagamu Over The Alleged Killing Of Tiamiyu Kazeem By SARS (Video)
Tension in Sagamu as angry youths of Akarigbo area of Remo land in Ogun state took to the streets on February 24 to express their displeasure over the killing of a footballer by operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
According to reports, at least three persons have been confirmed killed including one police officer as youths marched round Sagamu. In the process, three persons were hit by bullets fired by policemen to disperse the crowd.
The protesters retaliated by pelting the law enforcement officials with stones, which led to an unpeaceful protest.
The youths of the area had on February 22 gone wild with rage when the news of the death of Kaka, as he is popularly known broke, claiming he was killed by a SARS official.
Kazeem who was said to have been wrongly accused him of being an Internet fraudster (Yahoo boy) and arrested by SARS officers was pushed down from their van on motion and onto a speeding car that killed him on February 22.
Ogun State police had on February 23, however, insisted that the player was killed by on-coming vehicle after he jumped down from moving police vehicle.
According to a police spokesperson, Tiamiyu who was arrested for ‘harassing and assaulting members of the public while dressed in full military uniform’ had jumped down from the police vehicle that was transporting him to a police station in Abeokuta but was knocked down by an over-speeding car.
In videos making the rounds on the Internet, young men and women could be seen chanting various songs and calling for the abolition of SARS.
