68-Year-Old Nigerian Doctor Dies Of Coronavirus In UK

Alfa Sa’adu, a Nigerian doctor practicing in the United Kingdom, has died of the coronavirus.

The 68-year-old man, who is a native of Kwara State, died on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

Kwara state commissioner for chieftaincy affairs, Aisha Ahman-Pategi, confirmed his demise to TheCable.

A family member, who also confirmed the news to SaharaReporters on Tuesday, said that the victim’s wife, who is also a medical doctor in the UK, was also infected with the virus and was currently in a critical state at a hospital.

Ahman Makams, a nephew of the late 68-year-old, said that Dr Sa’adu contracted the virus after going to a hospital as a consultant to help patients struggling with the disease.

He said that;

Just lost my uncle this morning In London. Until his death, he was Galadima of Patigi and former Medical Director of London Hospital. May his soul rest in peace and may Allah grant him with Aljannah.

He went as a consultant to help and it was in the process that he contracted the virus. His wife also has the virus but is receiving treatment currently.

Until his demise, Sa’adu worked at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust.

Doctor Sa’adu is the second reported Nigerian to die of Coronavirus on foreign soil.

The first reported Nigerian death case is Bassey Offiong, a student of Western Michigan University in the US, who died of coronavirus on Saturday.

MDB reported that despite having fever, fatigue and breathing difficulties, Bassey reportedly died after hospitals allegedly refused to carry out a Coronavirus test on him in the Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Bassey was hospitalized at Beaumont in Royal Oak where he spent the last week on a ventilator in their intensive care unit before his death.

As of Tuesday, Nigeria has 135 confirmed coronavirus cases, 9 recovered cases and 2 deaths.
