I spent sometime today at the site of the tragic incident at Abule Ado. To give immediate relief and support to the victims of the disaster, I have set up a N2 billion Relief Fund to be chaired by @drobafemihamzat. While some Twitter users commended the effort of Lagos State governors, others expressed displeasure at the request, alleging that the donation platform is another means to enrich the pocket of the state.
See their tweets below:
The government shouldn’t be asking for donations. This is nonsense. We pay taxes!!!
NGOs may do so but not the state government.— Asegun Tolu Adekolu (@ToluAdekolu) March 16, 2020
God bless you Sir. I would be donating part of my NYSC allowance to the affected.

As long as you can provide live screen of what is in the account and how it’s being spent live, you guys are too dangerous to be trusted with a penny.🤷♂️🤷♂️

@jack why is the governor of a state who’s economy is larger than some countries put together not verified by @verified
Instead you are busy suspending @EfeKoloko handle.

What in the name of nonsense is this?
What’s the magnitude of the disaster that the government can’t independently cater to?
If this had happened in the North, wouldn’t FG step in with funds?
Last last na NGO your government be….start applying for Bill & Melinda Gate grants.

Tinubu can donate any amount needed. Is that not what godfather of a state is for? For the fact that he owns Lagos State, he should foot the bill. He should now give back to those he has taken too much from.

Which people are gonna donate?!
The ones u took away their livelihood via okada ban, or the ones that had to trek long distance just to get to work b4 9am and return by 10pm?!
— GàLìLéo🇳🇬🇬🇭 (@Lucasscot_101) March 16, 2020
I would have contributed mine but my transport cost has gone up 300% ever since you banned keke and okada in Lagos state. Thank you sir
