Just In: Nigeria Records Second Death From Coronavirus
Nigeria has confirmed the second death from coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.
The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, announced this on March 30 at a press briefing in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
This announcement is coming 7 days after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed Nigeria’s first Coronavirus death case. The first casualty of the virus, Suleiman Achumugu, was a former managing director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC).
Suleiman died on March 22 after returning from the United Kingdom. He was said to have started exhibiting the symptoms of the virus on March 17.
Suleiman’s case was reported to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) who took his blood specimen for a test. It was gathered that he tested positive and was evacuated to the specialist hospital, Gwagwalada in Abuja but died while receiving treatment.
As at press time, the identity of the second death case is yet unknown.
