Update: Four New Cases Of Coronavirus Confirmed In Lagos, Tracing 1,300 Persons In Contact With Infected Victims
The Lagos Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, has confirmed four new cases of the COVID-19 pandemic in Lagos.
With this, there are now a total of 12 confirmed cases in the country.
The Health Commissioner confirmed the new cases at a news briefing on March 19.
Professor Abayomi said tests were conducted on 19 suspected cases from which the four new cases emerged.
He stated that the four new cases includes a contact of the 3rd case that came from the UK, from of the new cases announced on March 18, a female Nigerian who returned to Nigeria from France via Istanbul on a Turkish flight number TK1830 on the 14th of March, 2020.
Another case is a Nigerian male in his 50s who never traveled anywhere, showed symptoms, tested positive of the virus and has been admitted.
The fourth case is a Nigerian male who arrived in Lagos on March 13 from Frankfort on Lufthansa Flight number LH568.
Professor Abayomi stated that they are running more test on suspected persons and contacts of confirmed cases.
He added that the cases are combination of imported cases and local transmission.
The commissioner also said;
Currently, we are following over 1,300 people right now to find information about the state of their health and the number is increasing.
This comes barely a day after the Federal Ministry of Health confirmed five new cases of Coronavirus, which made the cases 8 in total.
Meanwhile, the commissioner stated that the virus has been cleared from the index case, an Italian, but will undergo one more test before he can be discharged.
