Mohammed Atiku-Abubakar, son of Nigeria’s former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar has recovered from Coronavirus 40 days after testing positive.

He made this known to Premium Times on Monday afternoon saying;

I just received my second consecutive negative result. My discharge is currently being processed, and I hope to be home this evening.

Mohammed was first confirmed to have contracted the virus on March 19 and was subsequently transferred to an isolation centre on the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The 31-year-old has now tested negative to the virus after 40 days.

His recovery, according to experts, is currently the longest recovery period ever recorded in the country since the first infection was confirmed in Lagos on February 27.

Coronavirus which has killed and infected millions of people across the world, is known to run its course 14 days after testing positive.

Most recovered Coronavirus patients in Nigeria were treated and discharged by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) within 14 days.

According to scientists, such long period of recovery is mostly common amongst people above age 65.

Although, some scientists estimated the virus could also last as long as 37 days in a human’s body.
