Coronavirus: Governor Ganduje Asks Buhari For Urgent Help In Kano
Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has appealed to the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government to take urgent steps to reactivate the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) COVID-19 testing centre at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
Ganduje made the appeal during a press briefing held at the Government House on Saturday.
He revealed that the testing centre at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital has stopped operation for a while.
Ganduje further noted that;
The shut down of the testing centre is causing a lot of problems for the people of Kano State. We ask the Federal Government to quicken and put this testing centre in order.
Describing the situation in Kano as serious, Governor Ganduje stated that more isolation centres were also needed in the state.
The Governor said despite the situation in the state, his administration will soon commence the second phase of distribution of palliatives targeting 50,000 households, estimated to cost over N600million.
This appeal is coming four days after the Governor made a first appeal to the Federal Government to help with funds and facilities to curb the menace of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Ganduje made this plea when he received the Director-General of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu at Government House on Tuesday.
He also revealed that the state had not received any donation from the Federal Government towards the fight against the virus.
In his response, the NCDC DG promised to be of assistance to the state in order to overcome its challenges.
