Delta Records First Coronavirus Death Case

Delta state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa has confirmed the death of a unidentified man from Coronavirus complications, which is the state’s first death case.

The governor made the announcement on Twitter on Thursday evening, saying that the patient came from Lagos into the state two weeks ago.

His tweet reads;

I have just been informed of another case of #COVID19 in Delta State. The individual in question, had underlying health issues and had visited Lagos State in the past two weeks.

The patient presented himself late to one of our hospitals with severe symptoms.

In a follow up tweet, Okowa stated that;

These symptoms included difficulty in breathing. He was immediately given the necessary attention by healthcare professionals. Shortly after the specimen was taken, he passed away. However, his test results came back positive today.

He added that there are ongoing efforts to trace the patient’s contacts, in order to make sure those who came in contact with the deceased are properly isolated and tested. 

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) had on Wednesday announced the index Coronavirus case of Delta.

As at Thursday night, Delta has 2 confirmed cases including its first death case. 

As at press time, there are 288 confirmed cases in Nigeria, 51 discharged and seven deaths.
