Lock Down Ondo: Nigerians Call For Lockdown In Ondo Amid Coronavirus Spread
Nigerians have called on Ondo state government to lockdown the state following announcement by Ondo State Government on Thursday that there will be no restriction of movements on Easter Sunday.
The state said the ban lift is in order to enable the Christians in the state gather in their various churches.
Ondo state government had earlier placed a ban on religious activities as part of the measures in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease in the state.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in collaboration with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu agreed to ease the restriction to allow church services hold in churches on Easter Sunday.
A Twitter campaign with the hashtag #LockDownOndo has been trending with Nigerians calling on Governor Akeredolu to lockdown the state and restrict movement on Easter Day in order to avoid the spread of Coronavirus.
The campaigners also called the attention of the Governor to rising number of cases in the state as Commissioner for Health in Ondo state, Wahah Adegbenro on Friday evening confirmed a second case of Coronavirus.

While we are calling on Governor @RotimiAkeredolu to #LockDownOndo can I quickly remind my fellow believers in Christ that Jesus has risen from death but if you contact #COVID19 and die you will not resurrect. Please, don’t congregate, stay at home.

Dear @RotimiAkeredolu,
People still travel into Ondo State despite your directive to close all our land borders. People still gather in various places, now churches are planning to gather tomorrow. We can not afford to take this risk, Mr Governor. Kindly #LockDownOndo now.

The only way to protect the people of our dear state is to ask the government to #lockdownondo and safe-guard the health workers putting their lives in line of duty during this deadly pandemic era. We must speak in one voice now! #lockdownondo #COVIDー19

To the stakeholders in ondo State!
I believe we are enlightened and also educated!
This is not the best time to encourage any form of public gathering!
Let everybody stay in their houses!
Governor @RotimiAkeredolu take the decision asap and #LockDownOndo state now!

Seriously not attending Church on Easter Sunday will not make the world come to an end. Had on radio one government official saying the pastors said Easter Sunday is a special day and they will take appropriate measures around #Covid19, which day is not special. #LockDownOndo

State governors are relaxing Lockdown because of Easter as if the pandemic will be on break tomorrow and on Monday. Very unwise of Christian Association of Nigeria to compel state governors to relax the lockdown.
Aketi should just LockDownOndo. #LockDownOndo @YemieFash— Emmanuel B.A (@EmmanuelValiant) April 11, 2020
Yesterday Ondo announced a new case of Coronavirus- the state governor earlier announced that churches across the state will be open tomorrow.
This is a very bad idea.
It is potentially dangerous and could get people killed. Please #LockDownOndo state now.
